Blended Learning

What is Blended Learning?

Blended Learning is the purposeful integration of digital resources in order to enhance and enrich the quality of classroom instruction.

The PD Model

Action research took place with a "train the trainer model" approach.
With Action Research the goal was to best stimulate a 1:1 classroom environment and learn as much as we can.

Action Research can be used to support our professional learning community work and:

  • Build the reflective practitioner
  • Make progress on school wide priorities
  • Build professional culutres
  • Learn together

Members of the team: 6-12 teachers from every team, grade level or department, given a cart of Chromebooks and committed to learning together. Our K-2 tablet study team used the same model. Students were also included as part of the action research team.

What did we learn?

  • Deeper student engagement
  • An improvement in the ability to provide quality feedback to students (.73 effect size)
  • The ability for educators to more readily differentiate and personalize instruction to meet the students needs (.88 effect size)
  • Increased access to digital resources
  • Enhanced opportunities for student collaboration (peer to peer, student to teacher) (.82 effect size)
  • Improved lines of communication (.82 effect size)
  • The enhanced ability to critically think and problem solve (.63 effect size, 1.28 effect size)

The Next Phase

Members of our study team have introduced this to their colleagues back in the building and have worked with BLT's and building Prinicpals to develop a plan that continues to support the rollout and focus the work on instructional impact and improved student outcomes.

Continue to develop and provide support through our district PLC work so that examples of best practice and use can be shared collectively through continued action research.

Thank you and none of this would be possible without the support and trust of the Board!
