How to Set Up An Anger Center at Home

SETTING UP AN ANGER CENTER AT HOME
1. Choose a quiet place that is out of the way, but visible to an adult.
2. Hang the attached poster on the wall near the floor so it is visible for the child if he/she is seated on the floor.
3. Place a laundry basket in front of the sign.
4. In the basket, place play dough (to pound), paper and a crayons (to draw how they feel or to scribble on), newspaper or other paper (to twist and tear), tissues (to tear into little bits), a little pillow (to scream into), an unlit candle or something that smells good (to breathe in and out 20 times), a CD player and CD with calming music, if possible (to listen to calming music).
5. Tell the child she/he fills up with angry energy when they get mad. Say that the Anger Center is to help them get some of that angry energy out of their body.
6. You may want to offer a sticker or check mark every time the child utilizes the center. Stickers or checks can add up to small prizes, privileges or activities.
