Makerspaces and Genius Hour

What is a Makerspace?

Makerspaces are creative, do-it-yourself spaces where students can gather to try out new ideas, learn new skills, and create and build things. The space can be a room, a closet, or a mobile cart.  It's filled with a variety of items including craft and art supplies, construction toys, building materials and traditional tools, electronics, computers, software, cameras and even 3D printers.

What is Genius Hour?

During Genius Hour students develop their own inquiry questions about topics they wish to explore.  It gives them an opportunity to find their passions, engage in personalized and inquiry-based learning, and utilize their creativity.  Students formulate their driving questions, perform research, create a project, and formally share the project when it's completed.
