Science Standards
Science Course of Study

The curriculum for Science in Mayfield is based on the Ohio Academic Content Standards. These standards were developed by the Ohio Department of Education. The Ohio Achievement Tests measure a student's progress toward achieving science standards in grades 5 and 8. The Ohio Graduation Test measures achievement in grade 10. Passage of the OGT is a graduation requirement. For this reason, instruction in Science is closely aligned to the OACS. You can access the current standards at the link below.

Ohio's New Learning Standards (ONLS)
 
will be implemented during the 2014-15 school year. These standards have been developed by the state board of education and are aligned with the Common Core State Standards in that the learning objectives are more focused and are organized K-12 to ensure college and career readiness. New assessments are being developed to align with these standards. Mayfield teachers are beginning to learn about the new science standards and will be prepared to deliver high quality instruction when the full implementation is required and new assessments are administered.
