Social Studies Standards
Social Studies Course of Study

The curriculum for Social Studies in Mayfield is based on the Ohio Academic Content Standards. These standards were developed by the Ohio Department of Education. The Ohio Achievement Tests currently do not measure Social Studies standards. The Ohio Graduation Test measures Social Studies achievement in grade 10. Passage of the OGT is a graduation requirement. For this reason, instruction in Social Studies is closely aligned to the OACS. You can access the current standards at the link below.

Ohio's New Learning Standards (ONLS)
will be implemented during the 2014-15 school year. These standards have been developed by the state board of education and are aligned with the Common Core State Standards in that the learning objectives are more focused and are organized K-12 to ensure college and career readiness. New assessments are being developed to align with these standards. Mayfield teachers are beginning to learn about the new social Studies Standards and will be prepared to deliver high quality instruction when the full implementation is required and new assessments are administered.
