Innovative Options (IO)

Innovative Options provide instruction for students who require the most support to learn work skills, work behaviors, sensory integration, communication integration, and self help skills to further and strengthen their vocational growth. I.O. creates and emulates vocational tasks from various other programs, incorporating the above skills, to assist students’ successful transition to their next potential step in vocational programming while offering a range of staff to student ratio between 1:1-1:3. Furthermore, I.O. students participate in the S.O., T.O., VAL programs and other community training sites to gain experience and allow the generalization of skills in various other settings to further assist in a successful transition. The IO students transfer learned classroom work skills into the community at community sites such as Austin’s Steakhouse, Doc Star (data processing), and Mayfield Public Library to best practice and assess the generalization of the above learned work skills.  Along with SO II, we also go into local schools and community businesses for a daily breakdown, pick up, and delivery of their cardboard to streamline the Mayfield City Schools recycling efforts.  In addition, the Innovative Option classes implement various community out-reach programs with Cardinal Community Credit Union, Mayfield and Kenston PTO’s, The Littlest Heroes Pediatric Cancer Awareness, and other businesses for in house work for students by completing various assembly, Campbell Soup/Box Top fundraiser packaging, and many other tasks in the IO classrooms. The IO students continue their efforts, along with the SO II/Bridging program, by recycling plastic bags, paper, aluminum, etc. from CEVEC, other Mayfield City Schools, and various other sites throughout our community.
