Millridge students and the Lions Club contribute to 1 million trees
The Highland Heights Lions Club teamed with Millridge Elementary students to  raise awareness for the environment and to support the Lions Club International's goal of planting one million trees.
Highland Heights Lion member Jeanette Evans coordinated with Millridge Principal Spencer Wiersma to organize the tree planting on Arbor Day, April 27th.
"Planting four trees at Millridge will be the contribution of Highland Heights to the worldwide goal of planting one million trees," says Highland Heights resident Jeanette Evans.
Highland Heights Lions Club members gathered with first graders at Millridge to plant the trees.  The hope is to have the students return to the site every year throughout high school to see how big the trees have grown.
A great part of the Lions service mission is to care for the environment.
With the goal to plant one million trees around the world, that is less than one tree for each Lion member.
Why a million trees?  Trees help the environment. The benefits of planting a tree are many.  Trees are like the lungs of the planet. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen.
Planting trees in your neighborhood is one of the best things you can do for the local environment. Lions International would like to make  tree-planting part of each club's activities.  They are inviting neighbors, friends, and any member of any community to join in tree planting.  That way we can all make a positive impact on our environment.
