Congratulations
to the outstanding 2005 Excel TECC graduating class. Students
from all programs have earned over $1.5 million in scholarship
awards. This class of almost 340 students from nine school districts
(Aurora, Beachwood, Chagrin Falls, Mayfield, Orange, Richmond
Heights, Solon, South Euclid-Lyndhurst and West Geauga) will be
going on to over fifty different colleges and universities nationwide.
A majority of our students are currently employed in the field
of their program.
Students
have made their mark in our communities by being involved with
displays at the Cleveland Home and Garden Show (First Place
Award Educational Display); running a public service restaurant,
the Beachwood Bistro (at Beachwood High School); participating
in programs with Geauga Lake, Cleveland Botanical Gardens, Mustard
Seed Market & Cafe, Beachwood Hilton Hotel and Progressive
Insurance; doing service work at area hospitals, nursing homes,
elementary schools and video production at local cable channel
stations.
The
culmination of the year, celebrating the success of Career Technical
Education, was the Senior Send-Off held at Landerhaven on May
26th. We had 775 students, parents, school administrators and
guidance counselors, and business advisory committee members
in attendance to recognize our graduating seniors. Two $1,000.00
scholarships were awarded to Excel TECC seniors. Jammal Barker,
a Computer Aided Design student from Brush High School recieved
the Willard Walker Brown scholarship and Jessie Carlton, a Hospitality
and Food Service student from Mayfield High School was awarded
the Directo'r scholarship. We also acknowledged the retirement
of Mr. Roger Remec, who has been a horticulture instructor with
the Gates Mills Horticulture program for the past 26 years.
Mr. Remec was instrumental in expanding the horticulture training
programs to Geauga Lake, and the Cleveland Botanical Gardens.
He will truly be missed. Mr. Jerry Brodsky, the Aurora City
Schools superintendent (retiting) and Dr. Linda Williams , the
Richmond Heights City Schools superintendent (leaving for a
new position) were also acknowledged for their support and service
to Excel TECC.
