Excel TECC Class of 2006 Graduate Success
Congratulations to the outstanding 2006 Excel TECC graduating class. Students from all programs have earned over $1 million in scholarship awards. This class of almost 330 students from nine school districts (Aurora, Beachwood, Chagrin Falls, Mayfield, Orange, Richmond Heights, Solon, South Euclid-Lyndhurst and West Geauga) will be going on to over fifty different colleges and universities nationwide. A majority of our students are currently employed in the field of their program.
The Class of 2006 closes their high school years with numerous achievements including these highlights:
**One Individual Silver Medal State FFCLA Competition Award; Two Gold Medals and one Silver Medal in District FFCLA Competitions - Early Childhood Education program;
**First Place Team Tech Prep Showcase/Multimedia and First Place District Skills USA; advances to National Skills USA competition - Interactive Media program;
**Second Place Team Tech Prep Showcase for Pond Rejuvenation; Second Place Team District Floriculture Competition; First, Second and Third place Individual winners for Floral Design at the Cleveland Home & Garden Show - Horticulture program;
**First Place student in the Ohio Technical Institute test awarded full scholarship; Second, Fourth and Sixth places also from Excel TECC - Auto Mechanics program;
**Two Gold Medal Individual winners and one Silver PlaceTeam award in State FCCLA Competition Awards - Culinary Arts program;
**First Place award from Alliance for Community Media in Video Broadcasting program
Students have made their mark in our communities by being involved with displays at the Cleveland Home and Garden Show; running a public service restaurant, the Beachwood Bistro (at Beachwood High School); participating in programs with Cleveland Botanical Gardens, Giant Eagle at Legacy Village, Beachwood Hilton Hotel, University Hospitals/Richmond Heights and Progressive Insurance; doing service work at area hospitals, nursing homes, elementary schools and video production at local cable channel stations.
Our teachers have garnered well-deserved awards this year including: Chef Dan Esquivel, Culinary Arts Junior Instructor, awarded the Teacher of the Year by the Cleveland Chapter of the American Culinary Federation; Dave Strukel, Video Broadcasting instructor, awarded the WalMart Teacher of the Year; Ober Tanigawa, Early Childhood Education instructor, named as an FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) Key Advisor for the State of Ohio.
The culmination of the year, celebrating the success of Career Technical Education, is the Senior Send-Off on Thursday May 25, 2006 at Executive Caterers of Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights. Career Technical Education offers students a unique way to make the most of their high school education and prepare for college and the world of work. Excel TECC has twenty different programs to serve a wide variety of interests and skills.
