EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Early Childhood Education students attended the FCCLA [Family, Career and Community Leaders of America] Regional Skills Competition at the University of Akron on Saturday February 24, 1007.

HORTICULTURE

STATE FLORICULTURE CONTEST

  ATI winners
Erin Pryatel, Prentice Roy, Nick Birr, and Lea Jordan qualified to participate at the State Floriculture contest held at ATI/OSU. The team placed tenth out of 27 teams. Erin placed 13 th out of 125 student participants. Lea placed 44 th and Nick and Prentice placed 52 nd and 53 rd respectively.Congratulations team!

NORTHEAST SKILLS CLASSIC

  Northeast Skills winners
William Marcrum, Chris Cortez, Nevan Lovano, Constantine Boltyansky, and John Mascaro participated in the NE Skills Classic. William received a second place for walk-behind mower operation and a first place finish for plant identification.
John and Chris placed second for tree transplanting . Nevan competed in the turf grass maintenance section while Constantine competed in the assembl y section.

DISTRICT 3 FLORICULTURE CONTEST
Horticulture students completed a 50 question objective test, identified over 150 plants, flowers and supplies, judged plant quality and constructed several designs for evaluation.
Gates Mills Horticulture took Second Place Team: Erin Pryatel (Mayfield), Nick Birr (Mayfield), Prentice Roy (Brush) and Lea Jordan (Solon). They have qualified to compete at the state level next month at The Ohio State University.
Over 100 students participated in the Floriculture Contest. Individual results are as follows:

Nick Birr (Mayfield) - 8th place
Prentice Roy (Brush) - 12th place
Lea Jordan (Solon) - 14th place
Michelle Weissman (Beachwood) - 15th place

CLEVELAND HOME & GARDEN SHOW
The following Horticulture students were awarded ribbons for their floral designs at the Cleveland Home & Garden Show:
Bob Chapline (Brush) - 1st place for design sprouting from an Irish cap
Tricia Larson (Mayfield) - 2nd place for a Pot of Gold including Bells of Ireland and the rainbow
Megan Luczywo (Chagrin Falls) - 3rd place for her Irish wedding bouquet
Anthony Pivonka (Brush) - Honorable Mention for his arm bouquet

NORTHEAST OHIO TECH PREP SHOWCASE
Horticulture students were winners in the Tech Prep Showcase:
2nd place went to the team of Erin Pryatel (Mayfield), Megan Luczywo (Chagrin Falls) and Bob Chapline (Brush) for 'OH Gnats! A Search for the Best Management Techniques'. Instructor Becky O'Linn
was their advisor.
3rd place went to the team of Constantine Boltansky (Mayfield), Nick Wolf (Brush), Nick Martines (West Geauga) and John Mascaro (Chagrin Falls) for 'Rebuilding a Mist Bench'. Instructor Ed Tuhela was their advisor.

STATE NURSERY AND LANDSCAPE COMPETITION
The following Horticulture students competed against 40 teams at this competition in Columbus on January 23-24, 2007:
Nick Wolf (Brush), William Marcrum (Mayfield), Andrew Ferreri (West Geauga) Constantine Boltyansky (Mayfield), Jace Schmidt (West Geauga) and Nick Martines (West Geauga) placed 14th as a team;
Jordan Centofanti (Brush), Dan O'Donnell (Brush), Thomas Cox (Brush), Eddy Jerome (Brush) and Emin Abdullayev (Brush) placed 16th as a team.

Out of over 250 students competing the following are individual results:
Nick Wolf (Brush) - 22nd place
Jordan Centofanti (Brush) - 50th place
Dan O'Donnell (Brush) - 54th place
William Marcrum (Mayfield) - 69th place


MARKETING - JEAN GETZ

Ten students competed in the DECA Career Development Conference in Columbus on March 9 & 10. Two students made the top 10 in their events: Brittany Jackson (Aurora) and Erica Henkin (Beachwood).

Erica Henkin came in 2nd Place in the Retail Merchandising Series Event and has advanced to the International DECA Career Development Conference to be held in Orlando, Florida on April 28 to May 1. There will be 14,000 students attending.

The Retail Merchandising Event is sponsored by Johnson & Wales University. She will receive $750.00 for placing 2nd in the event. She has received $2,750.00 so far from J &W from being in Marketing and being active in DECA. She also has received $
3,000 from J&W for the Dean's Choice Scholarship. All of these scholarships are renewable per year.

COOPERATIVE BUSINESS INTERNSHIP

Jeremy Saham is currently enrolled in the Cooperative Business Internship Program at Solon High School . He is an active member of Business Professionals of America Region 18 and won 3 rd place Banking & Finance contest at the Regional Conference in January, 2007. On March 8 and 9th , Jeremy traveled to Columbus , Ohio to compete in the BPA Ohio Association Skill Competitions and won 1 st place in the State of Ohio in the Banking & Finance contest. He went on to compete at the BPA National Conference which will be held in New York City.

NORTHEAST OHIO TECH PREP SHOWCASE
& SKILLS USA

Two Interactive Media seniors took 2nd place in the Tech Prep Showcase competition at Cuyahoga Community College for their display/presentation of 'Consortium Promotional Video'. This project also earned them a Silver Medal in the Skills USA competition:

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & PROGRAMMING

SKILLS USA

ITP senior Alexandar Flagg (Mayfield) took 1st place in Related Mathematics and moves on to State Competition in Columbus on the last weekend of April.

The following ITP junior students accomplished First Place Team & the Gold Medal in Tech Prep Showcase category at Skills USA for their project titled 'The Original Grill/C&C Music Service' which was completed for an actual client:

The team advances to the National Skills USA Competition in Kansas City in June. They were the only team to earn Gold from the Ohio North Central Region this year.

OHIO COLLEGE TECH PREP SHOWCASE

On Tuesday, March 13th the Senior ITP Team of Taylor Dolezal (Mayfield), Dima Lyner (Solon), Doug Fuhrer (Aurora) and David Hubrins (Brush) earned a First Place Award in the Information Technology Division at the Ohio College Tech Prep Showcase held at Cuyahoga Community College for their project, “The Wildcat Youth Football Club” dynamic web-based application.  The IT division had 39 total team registered.

MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES

SKILLS USA

On Tuesday, March 13th ; the Senior Medical Technologies Team of Carolyn Straub (Mayfield), Sammi Messina (Mayfield), Katie Niedzwiecki (Brush) and Nicole Balogh (Brush), under the direction of Dr. Karen Hale, earned a Third Place Award among a strong field of 25 teams at the Ohio College Tech Prep Showcase held at Cuyahoga Community College for their outstanding project “C-Diff, The Next Epidemic.”
