Early Childhood Education students attended the FCCLA [Family, Career and Community Leaders of America] Regional Skills Competition in Painesville on Saturday March 15, 2008.

NORTHEAST
OHIO TECH PREP SHOWCASE
Horticulture students were winners in the Tech Prep Showcase held on March 11 at Cuyahoga Community College:
1st place went to the team of Bob Chapline (Brush), Michelle Weissman (Beachwood), Kayla Mahone (Richmond Hts), and Josh Kovach (Brush) for 'Global Worming'. Instructor Becky Gardner was their advisor.
2nd place went to the team of Konstantine Boltyansky (Mayfield), Kim Gessler (Brush), Brandon Hoover (Solon), and Mike Corbets (Solon) for 'Deck Construction'. Instructor Ed Tuhela was their advisor.
STATE NURSERY AND LANDSCAPE COMPETITION
The following Horticulture students competed against 40 teams at this competition in Columbus on January 23-24, 2007:

MARKETING - JEAN GETZ |
Eight students from Jean Getz's Beachwood Marketing Program competed in the Ohio DECA State Competition on March 7 & 8 in Columbus.
Angela Alaqua, Robert Barta, Patrick MacKenzie, Neil Stark, Kristy Thrush all from West Geauga High School, Keith Schmader from Aurora High School, Dana Schulman from Beachwood High School and Alexander Neesham from Chagrin Falls High School all represented Getz's Beachwood Marketing Program.
Kristy Thrush (West Geauga) came in Second Place in the state for the Quick Serve Series Event. Dean Giarrizzo's (West Geauga) Ohio DECA pin design was voted First Place in the state. All of the Ohio DECA State contest winners that will be going to the DECA International contest will be given 10 of the Ohio DECA pins to trade with students from the United States, Canada, Guam, Germany and Japan. Keith Schmader (Aurora), Alexander Neesham (Chagrin) & Patrick MacKenzie (West Geauga) have been invited to attend the Senior Management Program.
Getz's Beachwood Marketing Program has partnered with the Cleveland Cavaliers and will be giving an Ohio DECA/Cleveland Cavs T-shirt to each Ohio student competing at the DECA International Contest.
The students will attend the International DECA Competition in Atlanta, Ga at the end of April. There are approximately 15,000 students that will attend this competition.

On Tuesday, March 11, 2008 Computers, Networking & Electronics students competed at the Ohio College Tech Prep Showcase held at Cuyahoga Community College:
The junior team of Ian Fant (Mayfield) and Stan Zbarasheuski (Mayfield) presented their project: Home automation control via the World Wide Web.
The senior team of Karina Nikitkin (Mayfield), Rachel Emery (Solon), Mike Patterson(Orange) and Alex Sinclair(Brush) won 1st Place for their project: Wireless, remote controlled 4-player video game

David Akerley (Solon) recently won 1st Place in Ohio BPA Region 18 Graphic Design Contest. This qualified him for competition in Columbus on March 6-7.

The senior team of Byron Brown (Brush), Roland Cross III (Brush), Lamar Hinchen (Solon) and Walter Moore (Solon) earned a First Place award for their project, “Advanxe Media Group”, a dynamic web-based application that was created as part of an ITP Experiential Learning Project in cooperation with Advanxe Media Group and Mr. Robert Bankston, CEO. |

NATIONAL TECHNICAL HONOR SOCIETY |
Membership in the National Technical Honor Society is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership and service. Students who meet academic criteria can submit an application with recommendations from staff. For the 2007-08 school year, there were thirty-two students who qualified based on a 3.5 grade point average and and A in their program. Twenty-one students applied and fourteen were accepted.
