CONGRATULATIONS - NATIONAL CHAMPS!!
Congratulations to the SkillsUSA Tech Prep Information Technology Team known as bubbaCore; comprised of Greg Gutmann from Solon, John Kilbane of Solon and Jason Myers of Aurora. These students are graduates of the Tech Prep Information Technology and Programming course at Excel TECC. The week of June 22, 2009 these students have been in Kansas City participating in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Championships; comprised of the U.S.A.'s top 1% of all career-technical students. The team of Gutmann, Kilbane and Myers which competed Thursday June 25th in the Information Technology Tech Prep Showcase competition comprised of state championship business and technology teams from across the USA. On Friday, June 26th the bubbaCore team earned the Gold Medal and 3rd consecutive SkillsUSA National Championship for Excel TECC ITP. This is the first SkillsUSA National Gold Medals for Excel TECC students in over 15 years.

In Mrs. Payne's class, Maria Giambrone (Aurora), junior, and Shawn Kahan (Solon), senior, earned a Gold medal at the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) regional competition. Maria qualified to compete at the state competition where she was awarded a Silver medal for her Language and Literacy presentation.
In Mr. Tanigawa's class, Megan Puskar (Mayfield), senior, won a Gold Medal at the FCCLA regional contest for Concept Curriculum Development.

Environmental Education student award winners!
SUMMER 2008 -- CONGRATULATIONS! to the Excel TECC
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION winners in competitions at the Ohio State Horticulture Contest in Columbus.
The team of Brandon Hoover, Chris White, Frankie Tarulli and Chris Weist placed first in the Open Division. Brandon Hoover placed first in the state of Ohio as an individual.
In the FFA division, James Francisco, Kim Gessler, Kayla Mahone and Stephen Clucas earned a first place team finish. Stephen Clucas and Kayla Mahone were ranked first and second place individuals.
A second place FFA team finish was awarded to Robert Clark, Adam Gross and Kristen Clarke.

CONGRATULATIONS! to the Excel TECC
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION winners
National Junior Horticulture Association Contest: Eight students from the Environmental Education program participated in the National competition held in Spartanburg, South Carolina on October 10-14, 2008. Students were expected to identify 100 plant specimens, judge plant quality of over eight species, and complete a written test. The team of: Kayla Mahone (Richmond Hts.), James Fransisco (Maple Hts) , Kim Gessler (Brush) , and Chris White (Maple Hts.) placed second as a team in the FFA division . Bringing home third place team honors in the open division were: Brandon Hoover (Solon), Frankie Tarulli (Aurora), Chris Weist (Aurora), and Stephen Clucas (West G.).
District #3 Ornamental Contest: Eight teams consisting of over 130 students competed in the District Ornamental contest hosted by Holden Arboretum on October 23, 2008. Brandon Hoover (Solon), Stephen Clucas (West G), Chris Weist (Aurora), and Kim Gessler (Brush) brought home a 3rd place team finish . Brandon and Stephen placed 2nd and 5th as individuals. Morris Mitchell (Brush), Cheyenne Bailey (Mayfield), Tom Goetz (Mayfield), Mike Cellura (Brush), and Tevan Cooper (Cleveland Hts.) from the Cleveland Botanical Garden program placed 5th as a team.
National Career Pathways Conference: The Tech Prep Showcase first place team of Bob Chapline (formerly Brush), Kayla Mahone (Richmond Hts), and Kristin Clarke (Beachwood) presented their topic entitled "Global Worming" to over 2,000 visitors at the National Career Pathways Conference October 22-24, 2008 in Cincinnati. This team was one of 30 groups invited to present at this prestigious event.

Anthony Hill from Jean Getz's Beachwood Marketing Program competed in the 63rd annual DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California. There were approximately 17,000 students in attendance from around the world.
Anthony placed in the top 30 in the nation in the Quick Serve Restaurant competition and in the top 10 in the first problem solving case study that was presented to the judges. The case study was in the area of business law and ethics.

COOPERATIVE BUSINESS INTERNSHIP |
Alanna Bakst placed 1st in Business Professional of America (BPA) regional competition and 3rd in the BPA state competition in March, 2009. Her contest was Administrative Support Research Project--Individual. The topic was: How workplace conflicts can have a positive impact on an organization.
Jobanjeet Singh took 3rd place for Spreadsheet in the BPA regional and Latara Griffin took 2nd place in DataBase in the BPA regional.

The team of Chelsea Kluk, Ori Friedman, Jesicca Palevsky and Sarah Zucker took 3rd place achievement in the College Tech Prep Showcase competition. In this particular competition they displayed their talents and achievements at the FCCLA regional culinary team competitions using a display board of pictures, Knife skill display, PowerPoint, a 2-minute speech describing their efforts

Chelsea Kluk, Mayfield junior - Culinary Team - Gold medal
Sarah Zucker, WG junior - Culinary Team - Gold medal
Jessica Palevsky, Brush junior - Culinary Team - Gold medal
After winning Gold at the FCCLA regional culinary team Competitions & 3rd place in College Tech Prep Showcase, Chelsea Kluk, Ori Friedman, Jesicca Palevsky and Sarah Zucker Qualified for State Level Competitions and Earned Gold Medals 3rd in State FCCLA Culinary Team Competitions.
They prepared Filet of beef with Stilton-Portabello Sauce Steakhouse Salad Potato Gnocchi Sauteed Asparagus Minted Dark Chocolate Custard.

Medical Technologies students
Maurice Chazaro, Melissa Fuerst, Lauren Kraska, and Mary Vasinko were First Place Team winners at the 2009 College Tech Prep Showcase. They were also the 2009 SkillsUSA Regional and State Gold Medalist team and National Qualifier.
At the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City in June 2009, the team of Maurice Chazaro, Melissa Fuerst and Lauren Kraska, all Mayfield graduates, placed 5th Nationally in the SkillsUSA Tech Prep Health Sciences competition.

Membership in the National Technical Honor Society is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership and service. Students who meet academic criteria can submit an application with recommendations from staff. For the 2008-09 school year fifteen were accepted.
