UPDATE: Interactive Media Scores Bronze at National Skills Competition

The Interactive Media senior team who took gold medals for the regional Skills USA Tech Prep Showcase competition in Wayne County which qualified them to compete nationally in Kansas City last June, returned from that competition as winners! Instructor Mike Caldwell and Excel TECC Director Eva Jo Mihnovets accompanied the team of Samantha Verlihay, Darya Taraban and Erin Koppy. They had created a presentation board entitled 'Prints for the Park' which outlined the phases of the two print jobs that were created for Lake Metroparks the previous fall. The catagory they competed in was TechPrep-Arts, Audio Visual Technology and Communications.

The SkillsUSA Championships were held on Thursday, June 22 in H. Roe Bartle Hall and Municipal Auditorium. More than 4,500 outstanding career and technical education students—all state contest winners—competed hands-on in 84 different trade, technical and leadership fields.

Students work against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations like electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts.

Contests are run with the help of industry, trade associations, and labor organizations, and test competencies are set by industry.

HOSPITALITY & FOOD SERVICE CAREERS...

Here We Grow Again! ! !

The Hospitality and Food Service Careers Program is happy to announce our new Partnership with the Giant Eagle in Legacy Village. On February 1, 2006, the Juniors began mentorships at Giant Eagle from 7:45 to 10:15 in the morning on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They will be rotating through all of the Kitchens, Seafood, Floral, Produce, Gourmet, Meat, Deli, and Cheese. The students will be taking part in food preparation in each of these areas. This Mentorship is a PAID position for the students.

That’s Not All ! !

On Tuesday, February 14th we will be kicking off the “Hilton Pride Lecture Series”. We are using this opportunity to introduce our students to the Hotel/Hospitality Industry. Every Tuesday morning you will find us meeting with selected Hilton Team members, learning the intricacies of the hotel business.

We are very excited about these changes. Please take every opportunity to patronize these businesses and thank them for the important role they play in educating our children and promoting Technical Education.

If you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to call Donna Diamond at 216-287-5243.
