The Mayfield Veteran's Memorial is located in the flowerbed around the flagpole in front of Mayfield High School. The Memorial consists of stones, bricks and flags honoring students who attended Mayfield High School who served our country in any of the military branches.
History of Mayfield Veteran's Memorial
On September 25, 2002, Mayfield High School students and staff planted a tree in memory of former student Charles Stanley. Charles lost his life in Vietnam on February 6, 1969, and was finally buried in Arlington National Cemetery on September 6, 2002.
The honoring of Charles Stanley motivated a group of students, staff and residents to recognize all former students of Mayfield High School who served United States Armed Forces. On May 28, 2004, nineteen former Mayfield High School students who died while serving in the U.S. military were recognized during a dedication ceremony of the MHS Veteran's Memorial. Granite stones with each of their names and military rank were placed around the flagpole for a permanent memorial in their honor. The first nineteen men honored were:

On May 27, 2005, members of the Mayfield High School Veterans Memorial committee dedicated a second memorial to our former students who served in the U.S. military and to those who were honorably discharged. Brick pavers with the names and military rank of these men and women were placed around the existing granite markers to complete the permanent memorial in honor of our veterans. Also in 2005 another fallen veteran was added to the memorial Lieutenant J.G. Roy Mack.
At the bottom of this page are links to photos and other items from this special event. Also, a link to Mr. Jeff Glasser's website is available. Mr. Glasser is a 1970 graduate of Mayfield High School and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He not only attended the May 28 ceremony but also compiled photos and a detailed description of the event for all to see.
