CITIZEN OF THE YEAR 2014: THERESE RAZZANTE

Part of what makes the Mayfield Schools so successful is the involvement, commitment and volunteer effort by many of our district residents.

When we decided who would be the most deserving of the 2014 Citizen of the Year award, we looked no farther than a woman who began volunteering for the Mayfield City Schools when she was a freshman in high school. It stuck. Therese Razzante has continued to volunteer in Mayfield City Schools for the last 35 years.

Not surprisingly, Therese was the Student Council Spirit Coordinator at Mayfield High School. If you know her, you know Therese is still a “Spirit Coordinator” in everything she does. The mother of 6 boys and married to her high school sweetheart, Bob, Therese embodies the ideals of a person leaving her mark on the world – She is an outstanding mom who volunteered throughout her boys education at Millridge Elementary, Mayfield Middle and Mayfield High- she read books, coordinated classroom parties, organized fieldtrips, served as a classroom mom and cooked mountains of spaghetti for the football team. Therese maintains the “Spirit Coordinator” title even today as she works as the March of Dimes Family Support Specialist in the Hillcrest Hospital NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.) There, she runs the weekly parent support group and organizes fundraisers to support the NICU.

Additionally, Therese is a independent consultant for the CAbi Clothing Company where she helps women create a professional image and “dress for success.” In addition to her “day job” Therese was appointed the Executive Director of the Mayfield Alliance in 2012, an organization that supports Mayfield City Schools programs and teachers with grants, which you guessed it, are coordinated through Therese’s fundraising efforts.

And as though that’s not enough, for the last 4 years Therese has served as the President of The Mayfield Academic Boosters, an organization that is thriving under her leadership through its fundraising and ”For the love of Mayfield” anti- bullying campaign.

Therese also volunteers as the Spirit Wear Coordinator for Mayfield Middle School. Like many of our Mayfield alum, she graduated in 1981` and was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame in 2006. Therese is fueled by Wildcat spirit and most likely bleeds green.

One administrator said of her, “She is a remarkable lady. She’s hits the ground running every day. She is ambitious, energetic, and very goal-oriented. Mayfield could not be what it is today without her.”

Her passion is evident based on what she said when she was told she had been selected…

“My passion for volunteering is driven by my gratitude for the teachers and staff throughout the Mayfield School district!   Bob and I choose Mayfield because of the excellent teachers, staff and academic opportunities our boys would have in our public school.  Our six sons have had tremendous success at Mayfield not only with academics, but with their athletic success as well!   Mayfield teachers work so hard and strive for excellence in the classroom and on the field and for that I am thankful… our boys have benefited by Mayfield’s “mindset of excellence” …giving back to Mayfield by volunteering is a way of showing my appreciation.        It has been an honor to work with our students, staff and Mayfield families throughout the years!”

Therese on behalf of Mayfield City Schools we name you our 2014 Citizen of the Year. We are grateful for you - grateful for your dedication to education, your Mayfield community and our Mayfield Wildcats.

Congratulations Therese and thank you for all you have given to the “Mayfield Family.”
