MMS students hear an important message: "Take a Stand Against Bullying"

Mark Brown met with MMS students Oct. 2-3 to talk with them about taking a stand against bullying. Mr. Brown's visit is part of a year-long initiative at MMS to strengthen the social and emotional needs of students.

MMS School Counseling Department offers students a series of programs to develop social and emotional needs

As part of Mayfield Middle School’s continued focus on developing the whole child, the MMS School Counseling Department will be implementing varied and purposeful initiatives throughout the 2014-2015 School Year. These initiatives will assist in the development of social and emotional needs of our students. 

Building relationships with students is a vital component of middle school philosophy. At Mayfield Middle School, staff and students are focusing on the Four R’s in order to reach this goal. Here are the Four R’s.

  • RESPECT of self, others, and property.

  • Students coming to school with the RIGHT attitude.

  • Students being RESPONSIBLE for academics and behavior.

  • Students taking RISKS by getting involved with the school, taking greater effort, and widening their circle of friends. 

Middle school is an exciting, yet challenging time for students, their parents and teachers. Early adolescents face unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally. Included below are the initiatives that will be implemented throughout the school year to meet these challenges.

  • Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce Presentation -October 23, 2014 at 7:00 PM- Please attend if you can as this is such an important informational meeting for MMS parents!

  • Skills for Adolescence Class – A new class supporting the social/emotional needs for 6th and 7th graders.

  • Student Focus Groups - Girl’s on the Run, Ruling Our Experiences (ROX), Bocce Ball, Etc.

  • Academic Boosters CAT Bands/Random Acts of Kindness Program

  • Student of the Month Program

  • “Days of Acceptance” throughout the School Year-Pink Days rooting out harassment, bullying, and racial discrimination/Cultural Awareness Days

  • Service Learning Projects

Student Ambassador Program (New Student Immersion Program)
