Ohio Department of Education Names Mayfield Middle School an “Ohio
School To Watch”
MAYFIELD CITY SCHOOLS: Mayfield Middle School is the only school
in the state of Ohio this school year to be named an “Ohio School to Watch” by
the Ohio Department of Education.
MMS becomes the 20th Ohio school to earn the
distinction. Of the four schools being considered, MMS was the only school
selected for a site visit December 4th by the Ohio Schools to Watch
Committee.
“Congratulations to the staff and leadership for being designated
as both an Ohio School to Watch and a National Forum School to Watch,” wrote
Dan Stacy, Consultant, Ohio Department of Education in a letter announcing the
award. “This designation is about Mayfield Middle School staff and leaders
dedication to providing students with the best education possible. You all work
very hard and it pays off in the success of your students.”
Schools to Watch® is an initiative launched by
the National Forum to Accelerate
Middle-Grades Reform in 1999. Through the Schools to Watch
initiative, the National Forum identifies schools across the United States that
are well on their way to meeting the Forum's FOUR CRITERIA for
high-performing, middle level schools.

Principal Paul Destino credits the award to the Mayfield Middle
School staff, students and parents.
“The Mayfield Middle School staff focuses 100 percent on our
students,” Mr. Destino said. “They have a whatever-it-takes attitude to ensure
our students succeed. The students know
the staff cares for them and they in turn try their very best. Our parents know
our staff goes above and beyond. Mayfield Middle School is “Our House.” It’s a
sense of community for each other. It comes from the heart.”
As a result of being named an “Ohio School to Watch” Mayfield
Middle School teachers and administrators will make a presentation at the Ohio
Middle Level Association State Conference in Sandusky, Ohio in 2016. The MMS
team will accept the national award at the National Forum School to Watch Conference
in Washington D.C. this summer.
