CALL TO ACTION: Community asked to complete a survey to address changes to education law and policy

Dear Mayfield Community,

I hope this letter finds you well as I once again need your assistance.

School boards and superintendents across the state have been working with legislators and policymakers to affect changes to education law and policy that do not make sense for student learning. We believe we have made significant progress as evidenced by changes in testing, teacher evaluation and other accountability laws related to compliance. However, more needs to be done.

Our community’s participation in last school year’s “Call to Action” had a major impact on the voting members of the Ohio House and Senate as well as the Ohio State Board of Education. Your voices must continue to be heard.

Recently, I was one of 25 superintendents invited by the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA) to develop a set of statements that represent a collective belief about public education in Ohio. This work is unprecedented and intended to send a unified message from superintendents to our policymakers.

Below is a link to a survey. Please take just a few minutes to fill out the survey and make some comments. Your input will join the feedback from communities, students, staff and school officials from around Ohio.

I will be back in touch with next steps once the statements are final. Next steps will include contacting your state representative/s.

With warm regards,

Dr. Keith Kelly, Superintendent
