Eclipse 2017

During a partial eclipse, part of the Sun is still visible, and the Sun is dangerous to look at without something to protect your eyes from the Sun’s damaging rays. NASA approved safety glasses have been purchased by our PTG for every student, to protect the students’ eyes. Our number one priority is the safety of our students, so we have put together a plan to help the students learn about the Eclipse, while keeping them as safe as possible. A permission slip will be coming home today, any students who do not return the permission slip will not participate in the outdoor viewing, but will have alternate learning activities in the classroom. Below is the procedure we plan to implement for those that return the permission slip.
If you have any questions, please contact us at the main office (440)995-7350
At around 1:30, we will begin our outdoor experience:
1. One grade at a time will be called down to the front door (grade order 1, 2,3,4,5)
2. Students will be instructed on the safe use of the glasses and will put their glasses on under adult supervision.
3. Each child will go out the front door and stand in the shaded side of the building near the wall.
4. The teacher will bring the children into the sun, with their glasses on, girls first and then boys.
5. The children will look up towards the sky with their glasses on for approximately 10 seconds, then the teacher will instruct the students to return to the shade.
6. The students will then return to their classrooms.
7. Our Kindergarten students will use their classroom playground doors and be escorted out by a teacher 3-5 students at a time.
·In the event that we find that the Solar Glasses do not fit or cannot be used properly, we will not allow the children to view the eclipse.
·All Physical Education classes and outdoor recess will be held indoors beginning at 1:30.
·We will follow a normal dismissal schedule at 2:30, instructing the students to wait until they arrive home and are under adult supervision if they would like to view the eclipse again.
