2nd Grade CogAT

District Wide Assessment

2nd grade CogAT

Dear Parents/Guardians: Spring 2017

The Mayfield City School District will be administering district wide testing again this spring. Our goal and purpose, is to utilize the information gained from these assessments to get a better academic picture of each student. The results will provide teaching professionals a focused approach and guide for effective instruction. This will also allow classroom teachers and specialists an opportunity to provide interventions during the current school year. There is no need to study for these assessments, however, attendance is very important, and we are asking for your support in making sure that your child is at school and encourage them to do their best.

Students in Grade 2 will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Form 7 on April 4th , 5th , and 6th . The CogAT is a nationally norm-referenced test which will help to identify the individual strengths and needs of each student.

If your 2nd grade student receives IEP services and already has taken a cognitive ability assessment they will NOT be required to participate in the COGAT assessment. However, if you would like for your child to participate he/she may. Please contact your child’s teacher if you would like for him/her to participate.

A report of your child’s achievement will be sent home following the assessment. You will receive notification of your child’s test results through a Home Report. If you have any questions regarding our district assessments, please feel free to contact

Thank you,
Carrie Heath
