EXCEL TECC CADD seniors earn top honor in The Great Big Home and Garden Show 2017: 20th Annual Student Model Home Design Contest

"If we were going to build one of the homes, then this would be the one."

That's what a judge told Excel TECC CADD students Emily Pietrantone, Robbie Hall and Devon Medsker after they earned top honors for their "Great Urban Reuse" home design at the Great Big Home and Garden Show 2017.

Under the guidance of CADD teacher Craig Schmidt, the three seniors entered the design contest for the first time and won 5th place overall and the coveted "Architectural Design Award of Merit."

The team repurposed an old warehouse into a home for a millennial or "empty-nester" couple, Mr. Schmidt said.

The students will be recognized on the main stage of the I-X Center at the Great Big Home and Garden Show Feb. 4 at 10:30 a.m. Their award-winning project will be on display along with the other Top 10 designs.
