Superintendent's Advisory Council on Innovative Education: What businesses want our students to learn

Superintendents advisory council on innovative education

WHAT BUSINESSES WANT OUR STUDENTS TO LEARN
"We need to push our students out of their comfort zones. Now is the time to experiment, fail and learn new ideas," said Judge Dominic Coletta during the first Superintendent's Advisory Council on Innovative Education at the Mayfield Innovation Center.
Dione DeMitro, Director, Lakeland Community College said, "Skip the "easy" class and try the one that pushes your limits. Education is not about how smart you are. It's about how hard you work."
Area business and civic leaders, local and state legislators and MHS students gathered to discuss innovative education and what businesses are seeking from high school and college graduates. Representatives from The Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital, Olympic Steel, Progressive, The Austin Company, Greater Cleveland Partnership, Lakeland Community College, Senator Yuko, Senator Dolan, State Board of Education members Tess Elshoff and Lisa Woods gathered with Superintendent Keith Kelly, members of the Mayfield Board of Education and student leaders from the Superintendent's Student Advisory Committee to address the needed skills and attributes for success after graduation. "Our students make up 30 percent of the population but they are 100 percent our future," Senator Yuko said. #mychoicemayfield
