CLEVELAND CLINIC AND MAYFIELD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT OPen
NEW HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER
On-Site
Clinic for School District Employees and Families is
Operated
and Staffed by Cleveland Clinic
Tuesday,
Jan. 5, 2016, Cleveland: Tomorrow, Jan. 6, Mayfield
City School District will open the Wildcat Health and Wellness Center, a new on-site health and wellness clinic at Mayfield
High School. The new facility is operated by the Cleveland
Clinic AtWork program and offers select healthcare services
to more than 2,500 school district employees and their family members.
Staffed
by a Cleveland Clinic nurse practitioner and medical assistant, clinic services
will include close management and treatment of chronic conditions, such as diabetes,
high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, heart disease and thyroid
conditions; and care for acute medical conditions, including cold, flu, strep
throat and infections.
“We are very pleased and excited about this joint
partnership with Cleveland Clinic,” said Scott Snyder, treasurer of Mayfield City
School District. “We believe it will have a positive impact on the overall
health and well-being of our staff and their families, while achieving cost
containment measures for the district.”
Implementing the Wildcat Health and Wellness Center is part
of the district’s effort to reduce doctor’s office visits and co-pays; provide
healthier lifestyle options and coaching; educate and engage employees as
consumers of the healthcare benefits; and reduce absenteeism and chronic
medical conditions for employees.
Mayfield City School District is the latest employer partnering
with Cleveland Clinic through the health system’s AtWork program. Through this initiative,
Cleveland Clinic provides on-site services which help employers reduce business
expenses and offer patients access to medical care most aligned with their
individual healthcare needs.
“By working closely with the Mayfield City School District,
Cleveland Clinic is offering participants access to quality healthcare and the
opportunity to play an active role in their own health, as well as lower
overall healthcare costs,” said Jonathan Leizman, M.D., medical director of Cleveland Clinic AtWork. “This
clinic is an example of our innovative approach to making healthcare more
easily accessible to patients.”
Construction of the Wildcat Health and Wellness Center is
financed through the district’s self-insurance fund. The school district
anticipates future operating costs will be sustained by reductions to the
annual increase in the health insurance program equivalent to 1 to 2 percent.
The
Wildcat Health and Wellness Center offers adult and pediatric services,
includes three exam rooms and is available for any employee or family member
who is covered by the district’s life insurance. It is open Mondays, Wednesdays
and Thursdays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
About
Mayfield City School District
Located
in the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, Mayfield City Schools are comprised
of four diverse and dynamic communities: the cities of Highland Heights and
Mayfield Heights and the villages of Gates Mills and Mayfield. The district
serves approximately 4,400 students. Enrollment growth remains steady.
Mayfield has
enjoyed an excellent reputation as one of the top school systems in Ohio. This
is due to its excellent and committed staff, the majority of whom hold advanced
degrees. Mayfield’s students, as a whole, exhibit strong academic ability. The
Class of 2015 produced seven National Merit and Commended Scholars, an
accomplishment which less than five percent of U.S. graduates will earn. In
2015, Mayfield High School was named among the “Top 500 Most Challenging High
Schools” in the country by Newsweek.
The Class of 2015 also posted the highest ACT scores in Mayfield High School
history.
The District is
comprised of four neighborhood grade K-5 elementary schools, grade 6-8 middle
school and grade 9-12 high school. In addition to administering these schools,
the District oversees three consortium programs which draw students from
neighboring school districts: Millridge Center for the Hearing Impaired (MCHI),
an elementary school for hearing-impaired students; the Cuyahoga East
Vocational Education Consortium (CEVEC), a program which prepares older
developmentally-handicapped students for work and independent living; and Excel
T.E.C.C. which provides vocational, technical and job-skills training to high
school students.
The Mayfield
City School District is proud of the broad spectrum of programs it offers. In
addition to academics, Mayfield offers rich and diverse extracurricular
opportunities for students, beginning in elementary schools. Recently, the
district opened Wildcat Sport and Fitness - a gym, track and pool health
facility for community members and staff. The Mayfield Innovation Center opened
in 2015 to offer students a focused education in Science, Technology,
Engineering, Math and Medicine. The Wildcat Health and Wellness Center, an
on-site health clinic at Mayfield High School opened in 2016 and is operated by
the Cleveland Clinic AtWork program to provide select healthcare services to
employees and their families.
