Mayfield HS Remote Instruction Plan

FAQs Mayfield High School Remote Instruction Plan

1.  How long will Mayfield High School be closed?

Our current plan calls for all schools in our district to reopen on Monday, April 6th.  We will continue to follow the leadership of Dr. Kelly and our Governor if the situation does not improve.

2.  How will I connect with my teachers while our facilities are closed?

Our teachers have many different resources that will allow for learning to continue.  Each teacher will be identifying the best mode of instruction and sharing this with all families by March 17th.  For the past three years, our district has been using Schoology as our learning management system.  This system allows our teachers to post all assignments, videos, assessments, and other educational resources in an organized manner.  In order to continue to provide our students with the highest possible education, our teachers will be creating student directed videos, conferencing with students, and assessing students through a variety of ways.

Click on the Staff Office Hours Document to see all teachers' office hours and their email addresses.

3.  Are students required to complete assignments during this time?

Yes.  Deadlines will be communicated and graded according to the teacher’s policy.

4.  How do I access technology support?

Below are some links to common tech questions.  If you are unable to find a solution for your technological issue, please email our tech support at  techcoach@mayfieldschools.org

We have had several students indicate that they are in need of a Chromebook or Chromebook charger.  For those students in need, please come to the High School main office on either Wednesday, March 18th or Thursday, March 19th between the hours of 7:30 AM and 3:00 PM.

5.  What if my child becomes ill and is unable to work on their assignments?

If your child is sick, please report their absence to the office by calling 440-995-6915 or by submitting it through the Infinite Campus app.  By doing so, we have a central method of informing our staff in the event of a video conference, assessment, or critical deadline.

6.  When will extra-curricular activities resume?

These activities will resume once the Governor and the OHSAA lift the no contact period.  The OHSAA will be holding a press conference on Thursday at noon to provide updates on the postponed winter tournaments and spring tournaments.

7.  How will the closure impact end of the year events like prom and graduation?

At this point in time, it is too early to speculate.  We understand the importance of our end of the year events like prom, Excellence Reception, Honors Day, and Graduation to name a few and we hope to celebrate these events with our students.

8.  What will happen with State testing, ACT Testing, and AP Testing?

State Testing

We are awaiting a decision by the Governor.  There is current legislation asking for the cancellation of testing.  Once we know more, we will communicate this to our families.

AP Testing

The AP Program is developing resources to help our teachers support student learning during this closure.  In addition to this, The College Board is looking at solutions that would allow students to take AP exams at home.  Once again, this is all dependent on further development of COVID-19.

ACT Testing

The ACT has decided to reschedule the April 4th National test date to the June 13th and July 18th test dates.  ACT will be reaching out to those families registered with further instructions for next steps.

If you have any questions relating to testing, reach out to your child's counselor.

9.  Will the school year be extended into the summer months?

No one, including the Governor or the State Superintendent, have hinted at this possibility.  It is important to note that teaching and learning has not stopped!  Because we are continuing teaching and learning through a virtual model, this will not be an issue.

10.  Will our students have final exams in May?

At this point in time, we are planning on conducting final exams at the end of the school year.  If this changes, the plan will be communicated to our families.
