CONTRACT WITH THE COMMUNITY

Dear Mayfield City Schools Teachers, Staff, Parents and Guardians:

It is with enthusiastic anticipation and pride that I welcome you to the 2018-19 school year.

Last year was a great year of collaboration, achievement and growth in the Mayfield City Schools. This school year will be no different. Our students continue to amaze me with their many accomplishments in and out of the classroom. Our continued success would not be possible without the hard work of our wonderful staff and the support of a great community. Year after year, the synergies of a talented staff, involved parents, great kids and community partnerships result in relevant and meaningful learning experiences.

As our students, teachers, parents and staff begin to repopulate our schools, you will notice many improvements across the district as part of our “Contract with the Community.” Thanks to ongoing voter support, the three-year, multiphase renovation and improvement project at Mayfield Middle School began Phase 2 this summer with the renovation of the cafeteria, serving area, guidance offices, classrooms and gymnasium (to open October 2018).

“At the end of the day, it’s providing the best learning environments for our students to be successful when they graduate, as well as upgrading our facilities to offer modern day learning spaces,” said Superintendent Keith Kelly. “It’s designed for our students to enjoy their lunch, use their devices and collaborate on projects. The space was intentionally designed so they aren’t boxed in. We’ve given them a modern, day environment that is worthy of our community.”

Additional completed improvements include the new sound system and improvements to the rigging systems at the MHS Theater, roof repairs at Lander and Center elementary schools and the relocation and complete renovation of the Mayfield Preschool at Mayfield High School.

As a result of the relocation of the Excel TECC Cosmetology program, the space is now the Mayfield Preschool program. Relocated from Millridge Elementary to address the ever-increasing need for space and the ongoing overcrowding at the elementary school, the new Mayfield Preschool will welcome students on their first day, August 21st. The new preschool offers six classrooms, a playground and a secure entrance. The preschool curriculum also will give high school students who aspire to work with children the opportunity to work in the classroom.

“Moving the preschool creates an enhanced learning environment for our students, teachers and staff. It is an opportunity for our students who are aspiring to teach to do just that first-hand here, on our campus.” Dr. Kelly said.

The Excel TECC Construction Trades program has moved to the career technical campus adjacent to the Welding and Auto Service programs in Willoughby. The Cosmetology program now offers the community a storefront-type location at Alpha Park in Highland Heights. The Career Based Intervention program is now located in office and classroom space at Alpha Park. The vacated Construction Trades space will be transformed into a learning area that will resemble a modern work environment that will allow for student collaboration, brainstorming, cross-curricular, self-paced and project-based learning.

Additionally, School Resource Officers have been placed in all of our buildings thanks to a cooperative agreement with our cities and villages.

“There’s a lot of positive growth and change happening across our district for the benefit of our students and their learning environments,” said Dr. Kelly. “None of this would be possible without the support of our parents and community. I also extend a heartfelt thank you to our custodial staff, grounds crew and IT Department for their tireless dedication to have our schools ready to begin another successful year.”
