Mustang Family Update - September 2017

It is truly hard to believe that we will enter the month of October in just a few days and that we are already approaching the end of the first quarter of our school year.

Hello Mustang Families!

It is truly hard to believe that we will enter the month of October in just a few days and that we are already approaching the end of the first quarter of our school year. I am always amazed at the early progress of our students. If you walk around the halls of our building you would see innovative practices by our teachers (such as the use of SeeSaw and Kahoot) that continue to get your children excited about learning. Field trips by some of our grade levels to Holden Arboretum are also starting to occur - a strong partnership where learning is brought to life for our young learners. D.A.R.E. education has also begun and the students are engaged in learning about safe behavior and how to treat others and themselves with respect. The students are increasing their reading and writing stamina (which is posted outside of many classrooms in our hallways). Students are using Google Classroom to share and receive comments from their teachers in a child-specific way that encourages them to always want to grow.
I could go on and on with the great things happening at Millridge! Please keep asking your child about their day and encourage them to be risk takers and problem-solvers in their classroom learning. WE will do the same here!
Below are some great experiences you can look forward to in the month of October:

? Our PTG read-a-thon will begin on Monday, October 2nd. This is a great way to both support your child's love of reading and support our awesome PTG in the main fundraiser for the year. Login information was already sent home this week in preparation for next week. THANK YOU for your support! You can look forward to stories involving myself, Mr. Bradic and lots and lots of duct tape in the coming weeks, as we support the most important skill we have - the ability to READ!

? Monday, October 2nd is Blue Shirt Day in support of national Bully Awareness Month. Please look to our website for further details and team up with us to stomp out bullying by allowing your child to wear BLUE on Monday.

? Our first Millridge Father Figure Walk will occur on October 3 (last names A-M) and October 4 (N-Z). Please consider walking your son/daughter to school on this morning. Parking is available at FitWorks (5612 Wilson Mills Rd, Highland Heights, OH). We are looking forward to greeting you and your child!

? October 2-6 are some important days for some of our students who are completing their Passion Project. They will be selling NUT-FREE baked goods in the morning before school begins with all of the proceeds going to hurricane victims that are in great need following the recent, devastating storms.

? October 2-6 also marks a gently used shoe drive by one of local girl scout troops. A bin will be available in our front atrium should you wish to donate gently used shoes to be passed on to those in need.

? Oct. 7th is the annual Mayfield Fall Family Festival at the Environmental Education Center in Gates Mills. Please check our district website for more details and we hope to see you at this great event!

? October 19th is the PTG Fall Fest/Bingo Night. We encourage all to come to this outstanding and engaging night with your children. Many activities are available for families - enjoy this great night!

? Halloween parties will again be at the end of the month on Tuesday, October 31st. More details will be coming your way soon in preparation for this exciting day for students.

In closing, thank you for your continued support and encouragement of your child's education! Together we are Mustangs and show our pride well!
