Millridge Remote Learning Parent Letter

March 13, 2020

Dear Millridge Families,

I am writing to update you on our school’s plans for a transition to remote, on-line learning.  As we have worked through these plans, our motto has been Flexibility, Teamwork, and Empathy.  Our goal is to design systems that are easy to navigate, provide meaningful engagement in the learning process, and utilize blended tools to ensure that student learning is continuous and ongoing outside of the walls of our school building.

As we transition to remote learning, the following plans are being put into place.

  • We intend to use Infinite Campus to communicate with families at the building level.  Please make sure your email address and phone numbers are up to date in this system.

  • We are preparing our student devices to be shared with families as needed for student use.

    • K-1 devices and chargers went home in bookbags today with students if your family requested one via the survey sent yesterday.  If families wrote in a message questioning if they needed one, we went ahead and sent home a device with your child. If your child was absent from school today in these grade levels, the school will be contacting you soon to determine if you need a device for remote instruction.  Details will be shared regarding pick-up times next week at Millridge.

    • For grades 2-4, please click on the link below to request a school issued device for remote learning.  More information will be provided about when and how these will be issued.

  • Our teachers will reach out to parents by Tuesday, March 17th, to share their remote learning communication plan with you.  They will be using a combination of Infinite Campus, SeeSaw, Google, and Schoology as are appropriate for each individual grade level and classroom to share assignments with the students.

  • By Tuesday, March 17th, each teacher will push out one assignment to their students to help begin testing the technology and systems in place.  Please have your student access this assignment and practice this remote learning format.

  • Remote instruction will officially begin on March 30th.

    • Our teachers will communicate learning activities weekly for ELA, math, social studies and science.  Students will be given assignments to complete in each content area. The order in which they finish them will be up to the student.

    • Our Specials teachers will create activities that families may choose from in the areas of art, music, and physical education.  These activities will be optional for our students and families.

    • If your child works with an interventionist, he or she will reach out to you individually to share activities that your child can work on related to his or her personal goals.

    • Hard copies of grade level assignments will be available in the Millridge Office Atrium should access to online instruction not be an option for your family.  These copies will be ready for pick-up by March 31st. Building hours for pickup will be from 7 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

As additional information becomes available, we will provide updates.  This situation is unprecedented, and we know our systems will not be perfect.  We appreciate your flexibility, teamwork, and empathy as we partner together to make remote learning possible for our students.

Go Mustangs!
