JUMP ROPE FOR HEART RAISES OVER $10,000!
Jump Rope for Heart – Written by Kelly Thomas

On some occasions the hard work and generosity of students goes unnoticed. Today, Mayfield High School houses the most generous students it has in years. Jump Rope for Heart was hosted by Miss Monastero, Miss Sherwood and the 8th Grade students this year on February 14th. Prior to the event, “Save a heart, don’t break one” t-shirts and rubber bracelets were sold in order to begin fundraising money for this special cause. Hundreds of Mayfield’s eighth grade students gathered in the gym throughout the day to help raise money for the American Heart Association. Accompanying the eighth graders were students of all grades and their teachers here at the high school. The eighth graders during their Wildcat Focus Class wrote letters inviting their role models to the event. We were lucky enough to have guest appearances by Olympic Softball Player Crystl Bustos, Mayor Costabile of Mayfield Heights, Cleveland Indians’ mascot Slider and Mayfield Middle School teachers including Mrs. Golem, Mr. Paydo, Mr. Wojciechowicz, Mr. Yasenosky and Mrs. McGarry. Jump Rope for Heart was a huge success. Mayfield raised the most money it has in the 12 years it’s been hosted here. This year’s grand total was $10,332.38. Our top raisers included 11th grader Morgan Yokosuk with $1000.00, 12th grader Kelly Thomas with $245.00, and 8th graders Julia Caine with $215.00, Samantha Ho with $182.00, and Alyssa Piazza with $180.00. Congratulations to the Eighth Grade Class on a job well done!
