The results are in! The Environmental Education students of Excel TECC came home winners from the National Junior Horticulture Association contest held in San Diego, California! The contest took place October 7-11, 2011.
Seniors Jewel McCurn and Mike Wolf, both from Brush High school, were required to compete in the honors division because they were members of the 2010 Grand National Award team. Competing alongside college students didn’t slow them down – they placed fifth and sixth respectively as individuals. The team of Mike Kalnasy (Mayfield High), Brandon Koslen (Orange High), Jordan Thorn (Aurora High) and Doug Lieberman (Mayfield High) placed fourth as a team in the open division.
The students enjoyed touring the San Diego Zoo and the Botanical Gardens, visiting the beach and great weather. Next year the National Junior Horticulture Association contest will be held in Wisconsin.
Congratulations to the students and staff from the Gates Mills Environmental Education Center as they bring home national awards!
