CLASS DESCRIPTION
Eighth-grade language arts is designed to make you a better reader, writer, speaker, listener, and critical thinker. You will navigate both fiction and nonfiction with a strong emphasis on close reading and careful selection of textual evidence.
I want to equip you with skills that will actually help you in real life. What will matter ten years from now?--Your ability to think critically and creatively, comprehend all types of texts and media, communicate effectively with other humans, understand different perspectives, and use the power of literacy and language to change your life (and maybe even this world) for the better.
To achieve this, eighth-grade language arts will be marked by a heightened expectation for analysis, insight, and critical thinking. We will strive for an increased awareness of author's intent and a maturation of writing in terms of style and complexity.
I value fun, humor, hard work, and routine and seek to empower students to be self-sufficient thinkers and communicators!
