"Mayfield is a special place, one-of-a-kind, really. Mayfield is where students, teachers, families and the community come together to benefit and support each other for mutual success."
Those are the words Mayfield Superintendent Keith Kelly shared with more than 300 guests during the fourth Green Tie Gala Feb. 9th at Landerhaven.
During the evening, Mayfield Heights McDonald's Owner Tony Philiou donated $20,000 to enhance the learning/programs at CEVEC.
This year’s Gala theme was CLE: Communities Leading Education.
Guests were invited to “fund the mission.” Mr. Philiou generously made a donation to support and enhance CEVEC, its programs, students and staff. CEVEC is the Cuyahoga East Vocational Education Consortium (a consortium of 19 school districts, based in the Mayfield City School District,  that focuses on serving and training high school students with special needs to develop life and work skills).
Mayfield High School students also made a presentation about their Mayfield STEAM Bus, a student-led initiative to create a mobile STEAM classroom for residents of all ages across our communities.
The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math)  bus is a project created by a team of Mayfield High School students with a goal to create a mobile classroom filled with hands-on learning opportunities. The STEAM Bus will be a collaborative learning space that will give students and community members a chance to experience the world of STEAM hands on.  The coolest part? The whole space will be inside a former school bus.
In total, the Mayfield Schools families/community/business partners donated $70,000 to enhance student learning and teaching across our district.
Our sincere thanks is extended to the Green Tie Gala committee, led by co-chairs Therese Razzante and Beth-Ann Coffin.
"This event and its impact on the education of all of our students is a direct result of your tireless work. The entire Mayfield community thanks you," Dr. Kelly said.
