May 29, 2020
Dear Mayfield Parents/Guardians, Staff and Community
Thank you all for coming together to make
learning meaningful and keep relationships strong. The efforts made to make the
best out of an unprecedented situation were extraordinary. Our mission from the onset of this pandemic has
been to continue meaningful learning while adhering to the health and safety
protocols set forth by the state. It certainly is a time to be Mayfield
Proud.
I am especially proud of our Class of 2020
graduates. The district administration, board members, parents, principals,
teachers, staff and parents created a special and intimate commencement for our
senior class. A compilation video of the 120th Mayfield High School graduating
class will be released on Saturday, June 6th at 2 p.m.
A Graduation Caravan to honor our Class of 2020
will be Sunday, June 7th at 9 a.m. It will travel from MHS onto Wilson Mills to
SOM Center, Mayfield Road and end on Brainard Road. The Caravan is in
partnership with our four communities to celebrate the Class of 2020 while
maintaining safety for the students and the community.
As the official school year comes to a close,
Mayfield City School District offices will officially reopen June 1st.
With our reopening comes many changes for our
staff and visitors at our buildings, much like we are experiencing at
businesses, retail and restaurants.
As we prepare to re-enter our buildings and/or
return to work, we want to share with you what we will be doing to help
maintain a healthful work environment by taking the required precautions to
mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission. - There will be a concentrated effort on disinfecting high contact common areas on a daily basis. Additionally, employees will clean and disinfect their own work spaces frequently throughout the day.
- Employees will be required to maintain social distancing and adhere to PPE protocols including the wearing of masks.
- Hand sanitizer is supplied throughout the buildings. However, the best defense against COVID-19 is still frequent hand washing with soap for 20 seconds.
- Employees will self-monitor their temperature before coming to work and are required to stay home if they are experiencing any of the COVID-19 symptoms.
- Visitors also will be required to wear face coverings when entering any building. Signs will be posted by visitor entrances with this requirement. Please note that a visitor’s face covering does not need to be a mask, but can be anything that covers the nose and mouth, such as a bandana, scarf, t-shirt, etc.
FALL 2020 – 3 SCENARIOSThere is much speculation about the start of the
school year this August/Fall. It has not yet been determined if schools will be
reopened to students for classroom instruction. This means we must plan now for
any possible scenario. Currently, a team of administrators and teachers are working
together to develop a series of possible scenarios for learning as well as the
procedures and protocols for sanitization of buildings and classrooms. The model of instruction be it full remote, all students back in school or a hybrid of some kind will be primarily dictated by the safety and health protocols set by the state.
We will be surveying our parents in mid-June. The three possible scenarios for schooling in August/Fall, at this time, are below:
Remote Learning – We are reviewing what worked and improving the model of how we have delivered remote, online instruction over the last three months.
5 Day Plan - We are working on a safe plan to bring students back to our buildings and provide face-to-face instruction on campus.
Hybrid Plan - We are working through several hybrid types where instruction could be done both remotely and at home.
Things change daily and a more complete picture of what the August/Fall could look like should begin to emerge in July.
Please continue to practice the repeated health and safety recommendations – Stay home, wash your hands and practice strict social distancing. If you are ill or are experiencing possible symptoms, contact your health provider or call the Ohio Department of Health COVID-19 Hotline 1-800-4-ASKODH (1-800-427-5634).
There are many resources available online for
your health, safety and mental wellness. Mayfield Schools has a hub of
resources related to the coronavirus pandemic and information to assist
families. These resources can be found on our website Mayfield City
Schools Coronavirus Information and Resources.
I wish all a safe, healthy and enjoyable summer.
Proud to be a Wildcat,
Keith Kelly, Superintendent
