THANK YOU! Mr. George Hughes honored at final Board meeting
WITH OUR GREATEST APPRECIATION: The Mayfield Board of Education and the Mayfield City School District community recognized Mr. George Hughes during his last school board meeting on Dec. 15, 2021. Mr. Hughes has served on the Mayfield Board of Education for the last 24 years.
"My 49 year connection with Mayfield as a police officer, parent, community member and board member will not end here," Mr. Hughes said. "I will continue to support Mayfield in any way that I can. God has been good allowing me these 87 years on Earth in good health and sound mind. He also gave me many opportunities to serve." 
Mr. Hughes has dedicated 65 years of his life to public service - 41 years in law enforcement, of which he served as the Police Chief of Gates Mills for 24 years and 24 years on the Mayfield school board.
Board President Ron Fornaro presented Mr. Hughes with a crystal award which read, "With our greatest appreciation we hereby present George Hughes with this award in recognition of your 24 years of service as a member of the Mayfield Board of Education from 1998-2021. We thank you for your commitment and dedicated service to the students, teachers, staff and community of the Mayfield City School District.
Mayfield City Schools also has established the George Hughes Service Scholarship which will be awarded to two graduating senior who will pursue a career or college degree in education or public service.
