Computer Foundations and Refurbishment - CFAR

Computer Foundations is an industrial technology based program that allows job seekers the opportunity to learn and explore the technology sector. The program is divided into 2 different areas that allow for both independent and more supportive work environments. Partnerships with PC's for People and Goodwill allows job seekers to gain practical work experiences.

The computer refurbishment program is housed at CEVEC. PC's for People is a non-profit company that sells computers, computer repairs, internet based services and consultation at a discounted rate for families and businesses in need. The program is structured to instruct job seekers in the following areas: computer diagnostics, computer repair, computer installation and updating computers for resale. Job seekers work in a technology lab environment at PC's for People.

The e-waste program allows students the opportunity to learn how to dismantle old computers, printers, and electronics for recycling. Job seekers work in a factory based setting, with supervisors who oversee a production related structure. Job seekers are using a variety of hand tools to take apart these items. They have to use extensive problem solving skills to dismantle the whole item. They are also required to adhere to strict recycling compliance. Job seekers can work independently or as a team to dismantle. The e-waste program prepares job seekers for a variety work related environments such as:

=         Manufacturing

=         Waste management

=         Construction

=         Recycling
