Fourth Grade

Fourth Grade

Welcome, Fourth Grade Families!

In fourth grade we still sing and dance! We learn about the four families of musical instruments: strings, brass, percussion, and woodwinds. We listen to music and analyze it in more detail.

Fourth graders apply their growing music reading skills to singing and playing more complex pieces. We play recorders and xylophones individually, in small groups, and as a whole class.

Fourth graders play and sing more nuanced music, paying attention to their expression and the genre and form of the music.

Recorder Schedule!

Each 4th grade class will spend one grading period doing an intensive recorder unit. This class will be in addition to regular music days. Recorder days will always be on Fridays. Mrs. Mendelsohn's class at Gates Mills will have their Friday recorder unit first grading period. At Center, each class will receive a reminder notice the week prior to their scheduled recorder unit.
Please be sure to locate your recorder. Take apart your recorder and wash it in warm, soapy water. Rinse and air-dry thoroughly before assembling it. If the joints are too tight, a tiny dab of vaseline will help.
