Our first service project at HIS will benefit an organization called Hannah's Socks. Hannah's Socks gives new socks to people in homeless shelters. A 4-year-old girl named Hannah started this charity. She was volunteering at a homeless shelter and noticed a man with holes in his socks. She offered to give him her socks, but obviously they were too small for the man. Hannah and her mom then realized that there was a huge need for new socks for the homeless population and Hannah's Socks was created! Last year we collected 250 pairs of socks. We would like to set a goal of 400 socks for 2012. Please bring in new socks and place them in the donation boxes located in your homeroom.

Please remember to send the completed computer usage form to school.

READING:We will begin the skill of Genre and author's purpose. Genre is all of the different types of reading material in which we read: Fiction- made-up story, Nonfiction- real, true, factual, Poetry- a collection of poems, Biography- a story about a person's life. Author's Purpose is the author's reason for writing a story: to inform, to persuade, or to entertain. Students need to be reading at least 15 minutes each and every evening. HW Monday.
