COLLEGE TECH PREP
Two year program
Students interested in the Public Safety areas should be in good physical condition, have concern for the wellbeing of other people, have the ability to work on a team and be able to remain calm under pressure. The Public Safety Academy is a two-year program. The first year of the curriculum covers the Public Safety Core, which looks at such topics as the history of public safety, ethics, first aid/CPR, the psychology of stress, diversity, communications, Hazmat training and much more. After completion of the initial year, students will then choose to either continue into the senior year Law Enforcement or EMT/Fire program. The Law Enforcement program will investigate the criminal justice system, the courts, computer crime, patrols, investigation, traffic laws, forensics, as well as professional development. Since students must be 21 years old before being hired into a law enforcement position, the program is geared toward preparation for post-secondary training. The EMT/Fire program will be conducted at Tri-C East and West. Students will be able to obtain their Fire Fighter I and II cards, as well as an EMT-Basic card, allowing them to search for employment in those careers at the age of 18.
