THE JOY OF READING: Millridge Elementary launches the "One School, One Book" initiative

Fenway and Hattie Millridge One School One Book

Millridge Elmentary students, staff and parents began a month-long literary journey as they collectively began reading  Victoria J. Coe's, "Fenway and Hattie," the story of a little dog with a giant personality.
The Millridge community gathered on Monday during a school-wide assembly where every student received a copy of the book and a calendar of chapters to read nightly with their families. The books were generously donated by the Millridge Parent Teacher Group.
"We are so very excited for our learners to engage in this shared reading experience, both in school and in our community," said Millridge Elementary Principal Crag Carroff. "This program truly empowers families and gives them a great reason to enjoy and become engulfed in a fun and entertaining story."

Superintendent Keith Kelly had the honor to read the first chapter of the book to students, staff and families during the assembly, while Mr. Caroff's dog, Magnolia,  played along as a stand-in for Fenway.

"This is such a great shared experience for the students and their families," Dr. Kelly said. "It not only is building literacy skills, but this project also will teach the kids about the simple joy of  reading a good book."
