Welcome to the Mayfield City School District's Student Wellness and Success page! Our commitment is to create a supportive, positive, and thriving environment for every student. We believe in the power of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Character Strong's Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum to foster a nurturing and empowering school community.

Our Approach to Student Wellness

We understand that student success is deeply connected to their well-being. Our comprehensive approach includes:

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
PBIS is a proactive approach to establish the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students to achieve social, emotional, and academic success.

Key Components of PBIS:
  • Expectations: Clearly defined and communicated behavioral expectations for students.
  • Teaching: Systematic teaching of expected behaviors.
  • Acknowledgment: Positive reinforcement for demonstrating expected behaviors.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Using data to guide decisions and improve practices.
  • Support: Multi-tiered support to meet the needs of all students.

Character Strong Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
Character Strong SEL curriculum focuses on developing emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, and character education. It helps students navigate life's challenges and build meaningful relationships.

Key Components of Character Strong SEL:
  • Self-Awareness: Understanding one's emotions, values, and strengths.
  • Self-Management: Managing emotions and behaviors to achieve goals.
  • Social Awareness: Showing empathy and understanding for others.
  • Relationship Skills: Forming healthy and supportive relationships.
  • Responsible Decision-Making: Making ethical and constructive choices.
Our Character Strong SEL Goals:
  • Foster emotional resilience.
  • Promote empathy and compassion.
  • Enhance social skills.
  • Encourage ethical behavior.

Student Resources and Support
We offer a range of resources and support services to help our students thrive:
  • Counseling Services: Professional counselors available for individual and group sessions.
  • Bellefaire Services: Our school-based team addresses the mental health needs of students and provide services including assessment, wrap-around/community psychiatric support treatment, weekly individual and group counseling, and prevention programs for students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
  • SAY Counseling: SAY master’s level social workers and counselors work as a team with school administrators and counselors to provide services such as mediation, intervention and support to students and families; group and individual counseling; and classroom presentations on prevention topics. Through a coalition of community representatives and parents
  • Peer Support Programs: Peer mentoring and support groups.
  • Workshops and Training: Regular workshops on topics such as stress management, mindfulness, and healthy relationships.
  • Family Engagement: Resources and workshops for parents to support their child's well-being and success.

Students, parents, and teachers are all vital to the success of our wellness and PBIS/SEL initiatives. Here’s how you can get involved:
  • Students: Participate in SEL activities, join student wellness clubs, and act as peer mentors.
  • Parents: Attend family engagement workshops and support your child’s participation in PBIS and SEL programs.
  • Teachers: Implement PBIS and SEL strategies in the classroom and support student participation.
