Assessments and Identification Requirements

Mayfield City Schools provides screening opportunities for district students for potential gifted identification.

District Screening Assessments

• Grades 3–6: STAR Reading Assessment (Achievement)
• Grades 2 & 5: STAR Math Assessment (Achievement)
• Grades 1 & 4: NNAT3 Nonverbal Ability Assessment (Ability)

Mayfield also accepts referrals from staff members and parents/guardians for possible gifted identification. Students referred in grades K–1 will be assessed using the Iowa Achievement Assessment.

Gifted Identification Requirements
STAR Assessment Screener (Achievement)
The Gifted Coordinator reviews all district screening data and assessments to determine formal gifted identification eligibility.

• A score at or above the 95th percentile is required for gifted identification.
• Parents/guardians of students who are formally identified as gifted will receive written notification from the Gifted Coordinator regarding the identification and service placement.
• Many gifted students are served within the regular classroom setting by teachers who have completed Gifted Professional Development.

NNAT3 Ability Screener
The Gifted Coordinator reviews all district screening data and assessments to determine formal gifted identification eligibility.

• Students in grades K–8 who earn a score of 126 or higher will be identified as Superior Cognitive-gifted.
• Parents/guardians of students who are formally identified as gifted will receive written notification from the Gifted Coordinator regarding the identification and service placement.
• Many gifted students are served within the regular classroom setting by teachers who have completed Gifted Professional Development.
